'Ripper' Owens gives new Priest album an 8 out of 10!

Editor's note: Tim "Ripper'' Owens, the Akron tribute-band singer who ended up being chosen to front Judas Priest in 1996, left the group two years ago after original singer Rob Halford returned. Here's what he had to say about "Angel of Retributio":

Now this is coming from a singer who will listen to his old band and tell you what he thinks. I won't lie and say I haven't heard the CD. A lot of people from bands do that! And if you don't care what I think of the CD, then don't read my review!

I think it's a pretty good CD with some good metal moments on it. The intro song 'Judas Rising' is a real good opener; I think it is one of the stronger songs on the CD. 'Lochness' isn't as bad as people have been saying. It's a little long but it was cool.

There are moments on the CD that I just don't like, but that is with just about every CD. "Angel of Retribution" is filled with some nice guitar work. I've always liked Glenn's guitar tone. The drums aren't (as good as) "Painkiller" but they are good. Scott is a real good drummer, I mean his playing in his old band Racer X was amazing! Ian is Ian, a great bass player who I think is one of the best.

Now to Rob. I think he sounds good and he has some classic moments. His low and midrange vocals sound real good.

I asked a lot of people about this CD and got a lot of different responses, good and bad, but overall, I think it is a good CD, for a 2005 hard rock album. I would give it an 8 out of 10!

It's real nice to see the guys back together! I just hope they are riding on the same tour bus and having fun out there; they deserve it, and I wish my buds all the luck with the new CD.
