I noticed a poster named "Rycher" so I'm sure at least he and I can carry a conversation about these guys Razz

But seriously, any other fans here? I know they're kinda borderline rock/metal, but I feel at least their first five or six releases are heavy enough for them to fall into the category.
I joined the forum at anybodylistening.net, which appears to be THE place for fans to come together and talk about the band, and it got me thinking about the potential fanbases at other forums I'm at.

Yup I'm a fan...well mainly because of Mindcrime though...one of the best concept albums ever...Geoff Tate had a great voice...and still has, up to a point that is.

I've always liked the Mindcrime storyline, it is brilliant, it would also make a pretty good movie...

I'm not a HUGE fan, but Queensryche is a great band.

I've seen them live a couple of times and Geoff Tate is without doubt one of the finest vocalists of any genre. Unbelievable power and range.

Concept albums are not my thing, but they've put out a lot of good songs that can stand on their own.

I would vote Mindcrime as my favorite conceptual piece...perhaps even my favorite album ever, actually...

Part II was a very big blow...not that it was terrible. It was the best thing they put out in ten years...but as a sequel to a masterpiece, you have to be up to par...and up to par it was not, sadly.

I agree on the movie idea, though. I've always felt it would make a great visual feast. My only real gripe with the album is the real lack of details on Nikki's actual assassinations, and I feel a film adaptation would help fill in the gaps.

But truth be told, the great thing about the album is the power of each individual song. Aside from being catchy as hell, each song (minus the segue pieces) were strong enough to stand on their own.

Geoff Tate, when he wants to, is a great vocalist. He's trailed off a bit like many of the greats have, but not quite to the level as say Ozzy or even Halford...although give him a few more years to catch up in age and I'm sure he will. But for now, he does the old material enough justice to satisfy me.

Although I am ticked. I was supposed to see them next month in Boston, but they switched the show to a New York date, so I'm fucked.

I love Queensryche. The last few albums have been kind of lacking, but they are a great band. My favorite album by them is Promised Land. Most people don't care for it, but I love the whole album. I have been listening to them since Rage For Order was released. I have seen them four times, they are great live.

Yeah, RFO is nearly on par with Mindcrime in my opinion. Apparently Kernon has expressed interest in producing the band again, which I think is an opportunity the guys should take. Slater had the benefit of being a musician, so he helped write all of OMCII (albeit quickly and not very well done), and production-wise, has the potential to get a good solid sound out of the band and has the best intentions, wanting to bring them back to their heavier side, for he has come right out and said he wouldn't even buy their last three or four albums. If you listen to the work he did on their new cover album, I'd say he's finally given the time to craft the right sound out of the band...although it's too bad he couldn't push for a better performance out of Tate, because that is what is truly lacking on the whole thing.

Promised Land was an album I just couldn't get into initially. I wish they had gone with less emphasis on the acoustic/piano based stuff, because I feel a truly heavy song like "I Am I" would've had more bite with traditional distorted guitars. Although "Damaged" is one of my favorite QR tunes ever, and the title cut is damn doomy. Overall, it is am album that with time I have come to appreciate more, but initially, didn't quite grab me...actually, even OMC took time with me. I'd say RFO immediately stuck in my head, though. And the first tune off of Q2K and Tribe grab me, but both quickly become uninteresting pieces.

Rage For Order is a great album. There is not a bad song on there. The production is a little lacking, but that is understandable, as they had not yet established themselves as a strong band. All of their albums stand alone, not one sounding like the other, and that is what I like about them.

Have you heard the remaster?

I actually really like the production. I always thought it felt very cold and stark, very much like the subject matter discussed. I read an interview with the producer recently and it seems that that was what they were initially going for. Almost a robotic feel.

I saw them back in 2003, when they toured with Dream Theater, and Fates Warning. Geoff sounded awesome that night. Sure, he can't hit all the high notes he once could, but his voice held up great through the night, and it sounded great.

It`s only in more recent times I have discovered Queensryche! At the moment I have a few of their CDs, but I`m in the process of getting their back catalogue slow but surely. It`s Geoff Tate`s dynamic vocal range and Queensryche progressive metal combinations that swayed it for me. But I think DeGarmo`s years with the band are in my opinion their better times, a shame he had to quit at the top. PowerKnight Twisted Evil
