French Canadians have struggled for centuries to keep their French culture alive while living under the Union Jack.
A good many feel repressed, and that's why there has always been a sovereigntist movement in Quebec. There's a bit of an inferiority complex in there. |
Just like the UK`s illegal occupation of Northern Ireland...imperialism, the one thing you probably bet on here in Wales/Scotland/Ireland and parts of Northern Ireland is the English have a strong dislike, personally I`m not bothered but to some people they are hated!
The American culture with sports like the UK etc has it`s roots way far back and that`s no problem to me. Oddly enough Wales claim rugby is the national sport but I can bet your bottom dollar other than the internationals the club scene attendance is nothing near the club football teams. Almost half empty compared to say Swansea City/Cardiff City football clubs who basically almost sell out every home game and big away attendances. PowerKnight

American football, and baseball are entrenched in US society, just like soccer is entrenched in other countries societies. I don't know why it is that way, wierd but true. I think baseball calls it the "World Series", as it makes it sound bigger than it is. Also, there are a lot of non-Americans playing the game, so it points to the players, too.
I am more into auto racing, NASCAR, IRL, Rolex Sports Car Series, F1, and NHRA, not much I don't like. I have always been into cars, since I was a kid. |
they called it the world series before they let any non white and non americans play _________________ The bass player/vocalist for In Through the Out Door and the bass player/backup vokills for Die Deader |

Ouch! Rat bastard!
As for the original question, I think soccer is fuckin great. It's the only sport I ever played in school. However, I don't really keep up with or make a point to watch it. Whenever I happen to catch it on tv, I love it. I should make a point to make sure and keep up with it.
And for the record, I have heard alot of fellow American friends claim that they don't like to watch it because it takes way too long to score. They like to see more points being made throughout the sports they watch, rather than like 1 goal an hour. _________________ Drink beer. Watch Braveheart. Listen to Heavy motherfuckin Metal.

the scoring is not the issue with me, I just cannot get into it. Baseball can be a very slow, low scoring game, but I enjoy watching/going to a game. Every one has their different likes, that is what makes us human. _________________

Well, I agree. I was just speeking on behalf of people I've talked with. I personally like Soccer more than baseball, American football, and basketball. But American football and basketball score WAY more points more often. And baseball normally has a few(though often not many) scores a game, but it's just a slow as fuck game in general.
Soccer, on the whole, has a much lower amount of scores in a game. I think you will find "one goal games" in Soccer more than you will in any of our American big sports. Still, I personally like Soccer and Hockey best. So, it aint a problem for me. Aww, and I think longer time to score is often awesome, because anticipation for big moments is great. Just like cumming after a long hard FUCK. _________________ Drink beer. Watch Braveheart. Listen to Heavy motherfuckin Metal.
