Hail! is coming to Finland again and naturally I have to go and see them, eventhough Andreas won't be joining them this time, instead we get some guy I've never even heard of from Overkill. I do hope he'll do a good job.
I already contacted Tim and he promised to add me to the "list" again so that's cool! _________________

Here's a bit of a review of the show...pictures will follow!
Tim "Ripper" Owens brought his live project HAIL! back to Finland again after almost two years. The line up was the same (Tim on vocals, James LoMenzo on bass, Paul Bostaph on drums) part from Sepultura's Andreas Kisser being replaced by Overkill's Dave Linsk, who I have to admit didn't know anything about. So naturally I was bit worried about how he would manage with all of the classics, but right after the furious start of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades and Sabbath's The Mob Rules all doubt was gone! He was not only a great preformer but a very fine guitar player...definitely worthy of being in HAIL!
It was clear that the band, and the crowd, was there to just have fun...and by gosh (or should I say, by mosh!) that's what we did! The onslaught of metal classics from 4 decades surely left no one cold.
Tim's vocals were quite low in the mix actually, which was a bit of a shame, but even so some of his screams nearly made my head explode, so had his vocals been any higher in the mix it might have actually brought the whole building down! Paul's drums were perhaps bit high but these technical things really aren't that important and surely the band is not at fault here.
They were all in top form again. James (who was right in front of me) pounded the fuck out that bass and he has indeed risen to my top bass players list. He can play anything flawlessly yet with his own unique style!
Paul is incredible. He is fast, and I mean FAST! And the best part of him is that he is not just a fast trash drummer but can deliver a heck of a hard rock beat as well when needed. I can fully understand why he was chosen to replace Dave Lombardo!
As said Dave Linsk was an unknown to me since I've never listened to Overkill, but I have to say seeing (and mostly hearing) him play last night, that might change. I had heard the Overkill song they played before Rotten To The Core before but hadn't known the band...now I do.
And Tim...well what can I say...once again he proved a bunch of Finnish metal maniacs why he truly is the greatest singer in metal right now. Give him anything to sing, let it be Pantera, Slayer, Sabbath, Dio, Priest doesn't matter, he makes it his own and preforms perfectly. He is one of the most versatile singers I've ever heard.
Again Tim also took the time to ask for me during the show and shook my hand, later he also gave me his Monster/BF wrist band! I'll wear it proudly! But the big surprise game at the end of the show when he asked me to join him backstage for a chat! Great to finally meet him, such a nice guy and we talked a while about Beyond Fear, the music biz and such.
The show indeed was an experience and something I would not have missed no matter what! (Eventhough my onboard navigation system stopped working on the way and I got lost once trying to find the parking garage so actually missing it was closer than I would have wanted!)
The set list was bit different from other shows:
Ace Of Spades
The Mob Rules
Whiplash
South Of Heaven
Walk
Burn In Hell (which Tim dedicated to me!)
Desert Plains
Happy Birthday Dave Linsk (sung by the crowd)
Rotten To The Core
Stand Up And Shout
Symphony Of Destruction (with introduction of James intro)
Wrathchild
Bloodline (with introduction of Paul intro)
Creeping Death
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Fuckin' Hostile
Peace Sells
-Intermission-
Seek & Destroy
Heaven And Hell
There was one big ass surprise here and that was the inclusion of Slayer's BLOODLINE which has to be one of my favourite Slayer songs ever! How did they know? From what I gathered this might have been the first time ever they played it. A really cool moment.
Also Peace Sells is always great to hear, they haven't done it every time anymore same with Pantera's Fuckin Hostile which always gets the crowd going, that song was meant to be played live...and sung by Tim by the way (no disrespect to Phil who is also brilliant at what he does). Burn In Hell was awesome to hear, eventhough it wasn't preformed in it's entirety, but I do think we got a bit longer version than the people in south america...Tim really shines on that one his end scream was no short from what he used to do with Priest during Victim Of Changes! The show closer was rightfully so Sabbath's Heaven And Hell...and what a version! Brilliant. A perfect tribute to the greatest singer in the history of music. The small crowd felt like ten thousand strong (no pun intended) while we were singing the opening riff just like Ronnie used to make us do...If anyone can sing this song to perfection it's Tim.
All in all we got about 100 minute parade of metal classics that everyone knows (or atleast SHOULD know) and in a way that left no one cold. The only thing that makes me sad is that some people missed this...but it is their loss, luckily not mine! _________________
