Rob said only a gay guy could sing for Priest
Tim's response to not being gay enough...
I gotta say I do find Rob's comment a bit strange and even bit fucked up...Maybe that is the only way he can say that he can beat Tim anymore... Since Tim is so much better as a singer nowadays Rob can only say that "Hey! atleast I'm GAY!" Very strange though...
But still once again a really nice and cool reply by Tim...he's the MAN! _________________

WTF?
What the hell kinda comment is that?
Rob's been saying some pretty wierd things lately. Defensive things. I think it's because Nostradamus is such a huge flop. _________________

Those comments about Jugulator and Demolition were really idiotic. Maybe the songwriting process was effected, but the vocal side of things would have actually been detriment-ed by Rob's presence. Yeah I said it.
Also, comparing FOTD and NPFTD to TXF and VXI it is blazingly obvious that Maiden had also changed for the better. It was evolution and it was necessary.
Ripper took it like a fucking champion as always. It didn't brighten my day at all. Just complimented my theory of Rob's depression and personal decline. _________________

That`s a very strange comment...what was it supposed to mean? Very odd...at least Tim could see the funny side of it! Rob might have been Priest`s talisman, and still is.
But Tim`s inclusion in the band was a masterstroke...what seemed like an impossible task just added another superb dimension to the vocals of Judas Priest. You still have to admire what Priest did with bringing in Tim "Ripper" Owens.
Dare I say it, but Jugulator/Ripper not only stands with the Priest classics, but it didn`t actually miss the talisman on the album. Including the live stuff. PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

After reading Rob's remarks on Friday (August 22), Owens — who replaced Halford as PRIEST's frontman in 1996 — told BLABBERMOUTH.NET in an e-mail, "HAHAHAHAHAHA... Rob can be a funny dude! I feel like I did a good job in PRIEST and I'm straight! But Rob is a friend and the guys in PRIEST are all friends of mine! So, really, I will leave it at that.... But, man, that was a pretty funny comment. [It] had to be taken out of context or the question [was] just asked in a strange way, 'cause Rob would not just say that... I'm still laughing though. That just brightened up my day!"
Tim "Ripper" Owens:
made me laugh too...indeed rob can be a funny dude! |

I see that comment as one that was taken out of context. Sure, he said it, but I bet it didn't come out the way blabbermouth makes it to be. Hence, Tim laughing about it. Its like they are digging for "news". _________________

This is probably why I use Brave Words for news over Blabbermouth. Too much petty 'metal gossip' shit on Blabbermouth where BW&BK sticks to the real news and for the most part, the real bands. There's alot of that metalcore shit on Blabbermouth. _________________

I have two reactions to this topic...
1. Tim is a great man who finds the good in all people.
2. Rob's ego has finally arrived...and not in a good way...I don't have a problem with homosexuality, but I feel that Rob's comment was way too egotistical and was unnessiscary...Still Rob is awesome, but that comment was uncalled for... |

I`m not sure if those comments were taken out of context...I really don`t know? However I respect Rob Halford as a good human being regardless of his gender. In fact even today there is still a stigma attached to someone`s sexual preferences.
Here is a guy, a very talented one at that, who must at some point get very pissed off with negative comments sometimes attached to him from the media. The guy is bound to feel it at times, he`s only human, you only have to listen to some of his lyrics in his songs.
You can at times feel the frustration he has to endure, but with Rob unlike many other so called artists, he doesen`t use his sexuality to promote himself. The music speaks and always comes first, his ideals are no big deal to me.
Some people create and cause a problem with it, I was once in my local record CD store. It has a neat HM section, I mentioned something Halford at the time one of his solo albums were released, as Mike who runs the store is a good friend of mine.
Some ignorant metalhead said, oh Rob Halford, he`s gay isn`t he, I said yeh...so what. Apparently he was some kind of Christian...what a f*****g idiot. In no way I do agree with what Rob does in his personal life, but it has nothing to do with me. I`m not for it, and I`m not against it.
The guy deserves respect, and he get`s it for me 100%.
Just something I wanted to get of my chest! PowerKnight _________________ Joust With Thee

Yeah I always get shit from one of my mates who is a devout Metallica fan and only a Metallica fan. Always saying that Priest is a bunch of faggots and that all their music is 'gay'.
I always correct him by reaffirming the fact that only one of the members is gay and that only one of their songs could be remotely 'gay' (Raw Deal).
He also fails to realise that Rob Halford was more than likely a major inspiration to Metallica and their overrated brand of bland fucking shit and also a good friend of theirs as shown on the Summer Shit Tour if I remember rightly.
I don't even think about Rob's sexuality. Just makes me think that three of the greatest musicians of all time (Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury and Elton John) were all openly homosexual. Makes me think what the rest of us straight blokes can't seem to get right as far as the music goes! _________________

Tim's response was very professional. The man is a gentleman.
Now Rob:
Tut tut tut. What a silly comment to make. The reason you were in the closet for years is because "most people"* had the attitude (wrongly, of course) that only straight people could sing metal.
Also, I'd love to know what aspects of being gay he thinks applies to the job of lead singer of Judas Priest? WHY could only a gay man do his job? Being gay means, essentially, only one thing: you are attracted to a person of the same sex. It doesn't mean you have to be camp, or creative, or whatever Rob might have in mind.
It should also be noted that not only is he stereotyping straight people, but he's also stereotyping GAY people. You would've thought that he'd want to be the last person to do that.
Finally, it should be reiterated that whatever songwriting hole was left by Rob leaving, it wasn't filled by Tim. The fact that he wasn't allowed to contribute still annoys me. The thing that makes me feel slighly better is that the Beyond Fear album was so much better than Angel of Retribution.
*note about "most people". I have no idea how much anti-gay sentiment might have been around over the years - there was undoubtedly a lot. But, I wanted to point out that I'm sure that any anti-gay sentiment in the metal community would've been perfectly reflected by society at the time. _________________ You're a picture - just an image caught in time |

I think Tim's attracted to different holes than Halford is. _________________
