hey everyone.

ok here goes, ive never burned a dvd ever until tonight, im using nero 7. used dvd shrink to take off some of my fav metal/rock music videos from various compliation dvds ive bought over the years. the question is, is it possible to put all these videos onto one dvd to play in my dvd player? i manged to burn a dvd earlier with several videos on it, and it worked fine. but these were from just one disc, not compiled from 3 or 4 differant discs.

may sound a simple task to some, but as mentioned ive never burned a dvd before until tonight, sojust learning. bloody hell ive had a pc for several years and never learn to this lol, well go to learn sometime!!

any help would be ace! thanks.

Loz

I'm not quite sure what you're asking either.

I've burned millions of cd's & DVD's but I don't think you can copy multiple dvd's without having a single source.

I mean, DVD's aren't something you can just copy & play. They take a little more work. You can take individual songs off of a CD, but I don't know how to take individual videos off a DVD.

On CD's, each song is one file. On DVD's, the whole thing is one file. I don't know how to break that file up.

It would be like trying to copy part of one song off a CD. You can't just copy the middle two-thirds of the song. You'd have to take the whole thing and then manually edit it somehow.

apologies if my initial post looked a little muddled up. what i meant was i have a few music dvd compliations that ive bought "Monsters Of Metal vol's 1,2,3". i want to be able to make a dvd compliation of my fav videos from them. and wondered how best to go about doing this.

Well the only way to do that is to copy each dvd onto your hard drive as a one single movie and then use an video editing program (like Pinnacle Studio 10) to edit out the videos you want from each dvd and then burn all those videos onto one dvd...that would be the easiest way...I think...

There might be a slightly easier solution than the one Charger just suggested, but it depends on how the DVDs have been authored.

DVDs are separated into chapters, so it's possible that the compilations you've bought have each video as a different chapter. You can check this by going to the main menu and seeing if you can select each video individually. If you can, then things just got a bit easier - but not much.

Next you need to get hold of a program that rips DVDs to AVI (or other formats). This website: http://www.afterdawn.com/ can provide suggestions, both free and commercial. Once you've got the software, rip each video you want to an AVI file (if they ARE in separate chapters, then you just rip the required chapter). Once you've got the all the AVIs, you can then use Nero 7 (or, rather, a part of it, called Nero Vision) to compile the DVD you want - even with your own menus! - simply by dragging and dropping the videos. You MIGHT lose a bit of quality by going DVD->AVI->DVD, but if you rip to a high enough quality AVI, I suspect you won't notice a thing.

Charger's suggestion is also good, so you have to weigh up both the cost and which method you think is easier. Also, with Charger's method you won't get any drop in quality; with mine, the drop in quality will be small.

I hope that helps. If you've got any questions, PM me.
